ClearScan® Probe Cover
ClearScan® is an innovative disposable ultrasound probe covering that eliminates the difficulties and problems of the shell and gel system. ClearScan® is made of an extremely thin film that is acoustically invisible, producing the same distortion-free ultrasound image as the shell/gel technique, but without the discomfort. The conical shape of ClearScan® allows the examiner to safely scan all quadrants of the eye without causing corneal abrasion.
Overview
Ultrasound biomicroscopy or UBM is a useful diagnostic tool with several clinical applications for visualizing the finest details in the anterior segment. When a UBM exam is combined with ClearScan, a disposable conical-shaped probe cover, the anterior segment, sclera, eyelid, and tear anatomy are easily examined. The FDA-cleared ClearScan cover eliminates the shell-and-gel technique and overcomes limitations related to sterility, safety, exam procedure, and patient comfort.
Improved imaging leads to better treatment decisions
UBM with ClearScan is essential in the glaucoma examination for imaging the angle, scleral spur, and iris. structures behind the iris, such as the ciliary body and lens. Delineation of posterior structures is not possible with coherent light technology. Additionally, UBM with ClearScan is valuable for sulcus-to-sulcus imaging and determining the presence of synechiae, cysts, schisis, retinoschisis, and melanomas that have invaded the ciliary body.
